Is Your Favorite Creator Actually AI? Here's How I Found Out and Why I'm Still Shook.
Let me tell you something that messed with my head
A few months ago, I was obsessing over this creator. Beautiful feed. Perfect captions. Replied to every comment like clockwork. I even told some of my girls in my WhatsApp community — babes, you HAVE to follow her. And then someone sent me a video exposing the whole thing. AI-generated. Top to bottom. The face, the voice, the personality none of it was real.
And I just sat there like... wait. We are living in a simulation and nobody told me?
Listen, I am not here to scare you. I am here because as a creator, as someone who has poured real tears and real late nights into building something authentic, this hits different for me. And I need you to know how to protect yourself.
Why AI creators are exploding right now
Here is the thing, the tools have gotten insanely good. AI can write captions, generate a face, clone a voice, edit a video, schedule posts, and even reply to your comments. The whole operation can run with almost zero human input. And because platforms reward consistency and engagement, AI channels are actually thriving.
I talk about this constantly in my private creator community because the people I work with creators of all sizes, from beginners to established influencers are feeling the pressure. How do you compete with something that never sleeps, never has a bad day, and never runs out of ideas?
The answer is: you stay human. But first, you learn to spot what is not.
7 signs I personally look for
Their grammar is always perfect and I mean ALWAYS. No typos, no personality, no “omg I cannot even right now” energy
They never react to things in real time. A major pop culture moment drops and they post about it three days later with zero emotion
You have never seen their face live. Only pre-recorded content, always perfectly lit, always perfectly edited
Their comment responses feel copy-pasted warm but weirdly generic, like a customer service script
They somehow know about everything. Finance, fitness, travel, relationships — all with “expert” confidence
There are zero embarrassing moments. No bad lighting, no blooper, no awkward pause. Real humans are messy, period
They launched and immediately posted daily, perfectly produced content. No learning curve. No growth phase. Just instantly polished
Why this is personal for me
I built my whole brand on being real. The good days, the hard days, the days I almost quit. My community knows my voice, my laugh, my opinions. And the thought that someone could scroll past my content and then land on an AI creator who looks more polished, more consistent, more “together” than me and not even know the difference that genuinely hurts. But more than that, it hurts for the people being deceived. Because when you follow a creator, you are making an investment. Your time, your attention, sometimes your money. You deserve to know if there is actually a human on the other side.
What real creators like me should do
Show your face LIVE at least once a month. Unscripted. Messy. Real.
Reference specific things happening in your life right now not generic “relatable” content
Let your community see the behind-the-scenes. I do this in my community all the time and it is what builds the deepest trust
Be transparent about any AI tools you use. Your audience can handle the truth
The bottom line, bestie
AI is a tool. I use tools too. But there is a difference between using AI to help you create faster and using AI to fake an entire human identity. Your audience deserves the real you; messy, passionate, still-figuring-it-out you.
And honestly? That version of you is way more powerful than anything a machine could ever generate. Do not forget that.
Written with love, honesty, and a lot of cafecito — from one creator to another.
